Points Spread Betting

What is Points Spread betting in football?

Point spread betting in the NFL involves handicapping teams by setting a margin of victory. It offers odds on the underdog and favorite, adjusting the final score, making games more competitive and appealing for betting purposes.

Points Spread

Fair Play

When one team is really strong, the point spread makes the game more interesting for betting.

Winning Margin

If the favorite team has a -6.5 point spread, they need to win by 7 points or more for people who bet on them to win.

Underdog Edge

If the underdog team has a +6.5 point spread, they can lose by 6 points or less and still win bets.

Scenario:

In a game between the New England Patriots and the Miami Dolphins, the point spread is set at New England -6.5 and Miami +6.5.

If you bet on the New England Patriots to cover the -6.5 point spread, they must win by 7 or more points. If the final score is Patriots 24, Dolphins 14, you win the bet.

However, if you bet on the Miami Dolphins with a +6.5 point spread, they can lose by 6 points or less, and you win. If the final score is Patriots 21, Dolphins 17, your bet on Miami wins.
