Mike Trout fell just short of tying a MLB record for consecutive games with a home run. The Angels’ star outfielder went 0-for-3 during a 3-1 loss to Cleveland Tuesday and didn’t homer for the first time in seven games. Had Trout hit another home run, he would have tied a record set by Dale Long (1956), Don Mattingly (1987), and Ken Griffey Jr. (1993).

Despite the team’s struggles on the field, Trout is again having another strong season. He is batting .279 with 35 home runs and 69 RBIs in 365 at-bats.

Judge chasing Maris

New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge inched within five home runs of Roger Maris’ 61-year-old American League record by cracking his 56th home run of the season Tuesday night at Fenway Park. The blast, which went 383 feet off a Nick Pivetta curveball, extended Judge’s MLB-leading total.

The home run snapped a five-game stretch without a home run for Judge. If Judge didn’t hit any more home runs, he would finish with the fourth-highest total in Yankees history. Babe Ruth also had a 60-home run season in 1927 and also hit 59 in 1921.

Dodgers are back in the playoffs

Los Angeles is hoping to avoid becoming a version of the 1990s Atlanta Braves. The Dodgers clinched their 10th consecutive trip to the MLB playoffs by beating Arizona 6-0 Monday night. During that stretch, however, Los Angeles’ large payroll and frequent trips to the playoffs haven’t resulted in the big prize too often.

Over the past ten years, the Dodgers have appeared in the World Series three times, with their lone victory coming in a 4-2 victory over Tampa Bay in the pandemic-shortened season in 2020.

Pujols loves Pittsburgh

St. Louis Cardinals veteran first baseman Albert Pujols has made PNC Park his home away from home. Pujols, 42, passed Alex Rodriguez for fourth all-time on the MLB home run list by hitting his 697th long ball during the top of the ninth inning to put the Cardinals ahead 3-2.

Pujols has hit 34 career home runs at PNC Park, which is a record for a visiting player since the stadium opened in the 2001 season.

Valdez ties record

Houston left-handed pitcher Framber Valez tied an MLB record by making his 24th quality start of the season during a 7-0 win by Houston over the Detroit Tigers Monday night. By finishing his first career shutout, Valdez has tied a record for single-season quality starts New York Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom set in 2019.

Valdez allowed six hits and one walk in addition to piling up eight strikeouts against the Tigers.

One for the other guys

New York Mets manager Buck Showalter made a campaign to have an additional Gold Glove awarded to utility players. MLB and Rawlings — the company that the league partners with for Gold Gloves — agreed to honor his wish. The Gold Glove is a yearly award given to players in both the National and American Leagues for outstanding fielding at each position on the field.

To earn a Gold Glove as a position player, a player must be in the field for 713 innings by the team’s 141st game. Pitchers have to throw 141 innings in their respective team’s first 141 games to qualify, while catchers have to play in 71 of their team’s first 141 games to qualify. Rules for the utility position haven’t been revealed yet.

How Money Line Works?

Moneyline betting is by far the easiest way to place a sports wager. There are no point spreads to parse, no garbage-time free throws to ruin your betting day, and no last-minute meaningless touchdowns to take you from a winner to a loser.

How to Bet Odds

When we, as sports fans, learned our multiplication tables, we aced the number 7. Seven, 14, 21, 28, 35, 42 were easy because we all watched football on the weekends. Multiplication by sevens, then add a three, a six after a missed PAT.

How to Bet on NFL Games

Baseball is America’s pastime, but football is America’s crazed passion, with its weekly schedule of games, millions of television viewers across the country and the world, and the billion-dollar stadiums that serve as Sunday cathedrals in 32 American cities.

What is the Spread?

If you are a golfer or have ever played on a bowling team, think of a point spread like a handicap. It is a way for two teams of differing abilities to play each other on equal footing.  The better team, and the favorite in the game, gives a certain amount …
